In Gift 3, the two-inch cube of the second Gift is divided into 8 one-inch cubes. Froebel speaks about the single cube as "a part which is symbolic of the whole." Here children begin an exploration of rectilinear solids and regular divisions of the cube. Froebel purposely limited the number of blocks to eight so as not to overwhelm a young child with too many pieces. The limited number forces a child to be more imaginative and representational in his/her constructions without the pressure to create realistic models. The solid wood slide-top box can also be used in the Gift play. Because Gift 3 is part of larger group of materials it does not come with written instructions when sold separately like this. Instructions for Gifts 1-6 can be found here. Made in USA. For ages 3+.
