Hounds & Jackals is a strategy board game from the Ancient Games of Egypt collection from NewVenture Games. It came into existence during the Middle Kingdom, around the 9th Dynasty, circa 2135 – 1986 BCE.
The game was originally discovered by William Mathew Flinders Petrie, who initially published an account of the game in 1890. Since that time, more than 60 examples of the game have been revealed in Egypt, Mesopotamia, Israel, Syria, Iran, Azerbaijan, around the Levant and Mediterranean. The first complete set was discovered by Howard Carter in 1910 in a Theban tomb of ancient Egyptian pharaoh Amenemhat IV that dates to the 12th Dynasty (mid-Middle Kingdom). It was also featured in the Hollywood blockbuster, The Ten Commandments.
