Yoté is a traditional strategy board game of West Africa played by people from all walks of life in Senegal, Mali and Burkina Faso. Yoté is a popular gambling game due to its fast pace and surprising turnarounds. It is related to the game Choko, which is played on a 5x5 board. Both games were first recorded in Europe in the 1870s in accounts of returning colonials. According to The 10 Best Games in the World by Angels Navarro (2011), Yoté is over 200 years old and emerged from the Fulani, a traditionally nomadic pastoral people who live across West Africa.
